GROUNDSKEEPER

The Groundskeeper plays a key role in maintaining the exterior appearance of Wall Centre Downtown. This position ensures that all landscaped areas, walkways, and exterior surfaces remain clean, safe, and visually appealing throughout the year. With a blend of landscaping, exterior cleaning, and basic maintenance duties, this role supports the overall guest and associate experience by keeping the property?s outdoor environment in excellent condition.
What your day will look like:
LANDSCAPING & GARDEN CARE
- Maintain gardens and flower beds in a neat, healthy, and attractive condition.
- Perform regular raking, pruning, trimming, edging, and general garden upkeep.
- Plan seasonal flower selections, including ordering, planting, and strategic placement.
- Maintain flowers through regular deadheading to encourage continuous blooming.
- Follow a scheduled fertilization program for all landscaped areas.
- Conduct routine lawn mowing and lawn care.
- Control and remove weeds from planted beds, paved walkways, driveways, and hardscape surfaces.
DAILY EXTERIOR CLEANING & UPKEEP
- Perform daily litter and debris removal from sidewalks, curbs, and roadways surrounding the property, including Burrard, Helmcken, Hornby, and Nelson Street perimeters.
- Conduct daily leaf blowing and surface cleaning of all exterior walking and driving areas.
- Perform regular pressure washing of glass awnings and periodic power washing of exterior grounds.
DAILY EXTERIOR CLEANING & UPKEEP CONTINUED
- Clean and maintain exterior floor drains to prevent water buildup and drainage issues.
- Conduct regular exterior cleaning and maintenance to ensure the property is consistently maintained to a high standard.
- Daily parkade cleaning of designated areas.
SEASONAL & WEATHER-RELATED DUTIES
- Perform snow and ice removal on sidewalks, curbs, and roadways adjacent to the property during winter conditions.
- Support seasonal landscaping transitions and property preparation for changing weather conditions.
IRRIGATION & EXTERIOR MAINTENANCE
- Maintain and inspect the property?s irrigation system to ensure proper operation.
- Perform basic irrigation repairs, including hoses, fittings, and minor leaks.
- Conduct general exterior preventative maintenance and upkeep.
- Complete basic exterior painting and touch?ups as required.
- Clean, polish, and maintain exterior granite and stone surfaces.
- Safely work at heights when required, including cleaning exterior canopies and elevated areas.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Special projects as assigned, including occasional outdoor or property?wide tasks based on operational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 years of landscaping or groundskeeping experience (preferred).
- Comfortable using a variety of gardening and exterior maintenance equipment, including lawn mowers, power washers, pruning shears, hedging tools, and basic repair tools.
- Knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, and seasonal garden care.
- Ability to perform basic exterior maintenance tasks such as painting, minor irrigation repairs, and surface polishing.
- Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to maintaining the aesthetic quality of the property.
- Ability to work independently, using good judgment and proactive problem?solving skills.
- Self?motivated individual with a ?no task is too big or too small? attitude.
- Superior organizational and time?management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Professional demeanor with strong communication skills.
- Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to safely work at heights when required.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver?s License.
