Field Engineer (Product Safety)

This is a Safety Engineer role performing safety assessment duties for industrial machinery and equipment (semiconductor manufacturing equipment, transport/manufacturing/inspection equipment, etc.) based on various domestic and international product safety standards. In addition to assessment duties, you may also perform certification work represented by CB schemes and NRTLs, primarily for mass-produced products, or conduct external training and seminars for risk assessment and the interpretation of product safety standards. It is an environment where each engineer holds expertise in their own main standard while being able to expand their skills into new standards.

We are currently recruiting an engineer for the onsite team that handles large-scale manufacturing equipment that cannot be evaluated or tested in SGS's internal laboratories. The work is based on business trips, with approximately 2 to 3 trips lasting several days each per month. Even if you are inexperienced in assessment work, experienced senior employees will provide thorough support. Furthermore, since work can be done from home except for business trip duties, we welcome applicants from all over the country.

■ Organizational Structure The PS team (PS = Product Safety) currently has approximately 20 members. Lab, onsite, and sales staff cooperate to evaluate the safety of various products, from everyday home appliances to industrial machinery. The onsite team we are recruiting for includes an experienced engineer under a manager formerly from a semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturer, and will support your growth: ・Product Safety Business Manager: 10 years of experience in design and sales at an industrial control equipment manufacturer. ・Onsite Team Manager: 20 years of experience in mechanical design at a semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturer. Those who joined in the last 3 years were individuals in their 20s to early 30s who had design experience in industrial machinery or semiconductor manufacturing equipment but limited experience in design based on standards. During the training period, you will be part of a team with two or more senior employees, and they will thoroughly convey operational know-how through onsite work and classroom learning, so please apply with confidence even if you are inexperienced in assessment work.

■ Working Environment There are approximately 3 business trips per month, each lasting about 3 consecutive days. A typical weekly flow is: Monday morning telework, afternoon travel (destinations are often in the Tokai or Kinki regions); Tuesday to Thursday assessment work at client sites, possibly traveling that night or traveling Friday morning to work on reports from home. Overtime is approximately 30 hours per month. Except for onsite assessments (business trips), work can be done from home. Since business trip destinations are often in the Tokai and Kinki regions, applications from residents of regional areas or those wishing to U-turn are very welcome. 【Must haves】 ・Those with any of the following experiences: Practical experience in mechanical, electrical, or control design, safety design, or safety evaluation of industrial machinery/equipment (semiconductor manufacturing equipment, FA equipment, transport equipment, inspection/testing equipment, industrial robots, etc.) Experience in compliance with overseas safety standards/regulations such as CE marking, UL, etc. Practical experience in design, evaluation, improvement, or correction based on safety standard/regulation requirements. ・Ability to handle overnight business trips for approximately 3 to 4 days per week. 　※Please check ■ Working Environment for the weekly flow.

【Nice to haves】 ・Practical experience regarding mechanical safety standards such as ISO 12100, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, IEC/EN 60204, SEMI S series, NFPA 79, UL 508A, etc. ・Knowledge/experience regarding functional safety (ISO 13849, IEC 61508, IEC 62061, etc.) ・Design experience for safety PLCs, safety control equipment, safety circuits, etc. ・Experience in risk assessment, conformity assessment, CE/UL certification, etc. ・Qualifications regarding mechanical safety/functional safety, such as Safety Assessor.

【English】 ・TOEIC score of 500 or higher (This is a guideline; those without a score but who do not face difficulties in the following areas are welcome.) Required for email correspondence with overseas group companies, report writing, and reading/understanding standard requirement documents. ・We support your English skill brush-up through free internal TOEIC exams and subsidies for English conversation schools.

【About the Position】 As a Product Safety Onsite Engineer, you will travel to industrial machinery and semiconductor manufacturing equipment manufacturers nationwide to perform testing and safety evaluations. 【Employment Conditions】 Expected Annual Salary: 6.2 to 10 million yen *Includes bonus and fixed overtime pay for 30 hours per month. *Depends on experience.

Monthly Breakdown: 430,000 yen (Base 380,000 + Fixed Overtime 50,000) to 690,000 yen (Base 560,000 + Fixed Overtime 130,000)

Bonus: Once a year in March (depending on business performance)

Salary Revision: Once a year in April

Probation Period: 3 months

Various Allowances: Commuting allowance, overtime allowance (overtime exceeding the 30-hour fixed amount will be paid separately per minute). BYOD Allowance: 3,000 yen per month is provided to install an IP phone app on your own smartphone for business use. Call volume is fully covered by the company. The PC used for work will be provided by the company.

Working Hours: 9:00–17:00 (7 hours per day) Break 12:00–13:00 *Flex-time system available (Core time 11:00–15:00) *Telework system available. Full remote work is possible except for onsite assessments. Residents of regional areas or those wishing to U-turn are also welcome. For about one week after joining, you will be required to travel to the Yokohama headquarters for training, etc. After that, work will mainly consist of remote work from home and onsite assessment work, and in principle, commuting to the headquarters is not required.
