Sales (Chemical Substance Analysis for the Automotive Industry) Technical Sales Supporting Global Regulatory Compliance
Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, SGS is the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, with 2,600 offices and laboratories and over 99,600 employees worldwide. We provide Testing, Inspection, Certification, and Verification services that respond to globally unified international standards and specifications, as well as regulations that vary by country. To achieve "Creating a better, safer, more interconnected world" within the global supply chain, we will continue to provide the highest level of service.
We are currently seeking a Sales position to propose testing services such as chemical substance analysis and VOC testing in the automotive industry. Automobiles utilize a vast number of materials, parts, and chemical substances. In recent years, due to the strengthening of environmental regulations and the globalization of supply chains, the importance of appropriately managing chemical substances contained in products and ensuring compliance with the regulations and standards of each country has been increasing. In this position, you will propose services such as chemical substance analysis and VOC testing to customers including automotive manufacturers and Tier 1/Tier 2 suppliers, and you will support problem-solving to "deliver products to the world with peace of mind." Rather than simply selling tests, this is a position close to technical sales and solution sales, where you will understand the challenges of customers' products, development, and regulatory compliance, and propose optimal solutions while collaborating with internal analysis labs and overseas SGS teams.
◢◤Responsibilities◢◤ ■ New Customer Development Develop new customers, primarily focusing on automotive OEMs, Tier 1, and Tier 2 suppliers. Listen to challenges in customers' product development and regulatory compliance, and propose optimal services such as chemical substance analysis and VOC testing. ■ Proposals and Deepening Relationships with Existing Customers While building relationships with existing customers, propose new testing and analysis services in addition to the testing services they are currently using. Instead of a one-time transaction, you will support the resolution of customer challenges as a long-term partner. ■ Project Management After receiving an order, promote the project in collaboration with internal analysis labs, customer support, and overseas SGS teams. You will lead the project as a bridge between customers and internal teams, handling matters such as testing content, schedules, and feedback on results. ■ Development of New Services and Markets By utilizing SGS's global network and expertise, you can also be involved in proposing and developing new testing services and advisory services. We also expect you to capture market changes and customer needs and to think for yourself to shape "services that will be needed in the future."
◢◤The Appeal of This Job◢◤ ① Acquire expertise in "Automotive × Chemistry × Global Regulations" While leveraging your sales experience in the automotive industry, you can acquire specialized knowledge regarding chemical substance regulations such as REACH and RoHS, as well as environmental and safety aspects of products. As the importance of environmental regulations and supply chain management continues to grow, this is a position where you can build expertise in "Automotive Industry × Regulation/Compliance × Technical Sales." ② Support the global expansion of Japanese automotive manufacturers Our customers are primarily major domestic automotive manufacturers and parts manufacturers. For products developed in Japan to be sold in various countries around the world, it is necessary to comply with the regulations and standards of each market. By utilizing SGS's global network, you can support the process of Japanese manufacturing expanding into the world. ③ Sales that is "not just selling and finishing" You listen to customer challenges, consider the analysis content, and move projects by collaborating with internal labs and overseas teams. Therefore, rather than sales that compete only on price or product specifications, you can build a career as sales that solves customer problems through specialized knowledge and proposal capabilities. ④ Work in a global environment There are opportunities to collaborate with overseas SGS labs, Global/Region teams, and foreign members. While being in charge of Japanese customers, by working with overseas experts, you can gain global experience that cannot be obtained through domestic sales alone.
◢◤Support After Joining the Company◢◤ Specialized knowledge regarding chemical substance analysis and regulations can be learned after joining the company. In addition to the sales team, you will deepen your understanding of services and technology through practical work while collaborating with members of customer support, administration, and analysis labs. We also welcome those who "have sales experience in the automotive industry but want to learn about chemical analysis from scratch."
◢◤Organizational Structure◢◤ RSTS (Restricted Substances Testing Services) is a specialized team that provides chemical substance analysis services. Members of sales, customer support, administration, and analysis labs work together as one team to support the resolution of customer challenges. Since members with different areas of expertise work together, you can acquire a wide range of knowledge as a salesperson. Additionally, the team is primarily composed of mid-career hires, and there is a culture of flat communication regardless of position or age.
◢◤Work Environment◢◤ This is a hybrid work style combining telework and office attendance. While using online methods for business meetings with customers, you will conduct activities such as visiting customers or attending exhibitions and seminars as necessary. Overtime is expected to be approximately 30–40 hours per month.
◢◤We Welcome People Who◢◤

- Want to challenge themselves with proposal-based sales that solve customer problems, rather than just "selling things."
- Are interested in specialized fields such as automotive, chemistry, and environmental regulations.
- Can advance work by involving internal experts such as technical departments and labs.
