We are currently recruiting for a Design Engineer to join a growing and well-established specialist supplier to the Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) sector, based in Northfleet. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded individual with experience in mechanical design, building services or MEP engineering to join a supportive business with an expanding engineering division. Working closely with internal teams, customers and external manufacturing partners, you will play a key role in developing practical engineering solutions, producing technical drawings and coordinating projects from initial enquiry through to manufacture and delivery. This is a technically focused position rather than a sales role, offering the opportunity to utilise your design knowledge, problem-solving abilities and project coordination skills within a varied and hands-on environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce, develop and modify technical engineering drawings using SolidWorks and other relevant CAD software.
  • Interpret customer specifications, technical requirements and engineering drawings to develop practical design solutions.
  • Provide technical support to internal sales teams on engineering enquiries and project requirements.
  • Liaise with external CAD designers, fabrication partners and suppliers to coordinate design and manufacturing activities.
  • Review technical drawings to ensure accuracy, functionality and suitability for manufacture and installation.
  • Manage the design approval process, ensuring drawings and specifications meet project requirements.
  • Coordinate multiple engineering projects, monitoring progress and ensuring deadlines are achieved.
  • Identify potential design or manufacturing challenges and recommend effective solutions.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, drawings and project records.
  • Support occasional site visits to assess technical requirements and provide engineering input.
  • Act as a key technical point of contact for internal departments, suppliers and customers.

Skills & Experience Required

  • Previous experience in a Technical Design Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, CAD Engineer, MEP Engineer or similar technical role.
  • Background in Building Services, Mechanical Engineering, M&E installations or a related engineering discipline.
  • Experience using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Revit or similar design software.
  • Ability to read, interpret and produce detailed technical and engineering drawings.
  • Good understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail with a practical, solutions-focused approach.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.

Desirable Experience:

  • Knowledge of pipework systems, mechanical supports, bracketry or associated building services components.
  • Experience working with fabrication suppliers or subcontract manufacturing partners.
  • Understanding of mechanical installations and the practical considerations involved in manufacturing and installation.
  • Previous experience coordinating technical projects from concept through to completion.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary of £40,000 - £45,000, depending on experience.
  • Monday to Friday working hours, 8:00am - 5:00pm.
  • Permanent, full-time position.
  • Free on-site parking.
  • Excellent public transport links.
  • Complimentary refreshments and occasional team lunches.
  • Staff incentives and recognition schemes.
  • Supportive, stable and collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunity for professional development and career progression within a growing engineering division.
