CAD Technician

Milton Keynes Up to £40,000 DOE Hybrid (After successful probation)

Are you an experienced CAD Technician with a background in construction, steelwork, fabrication, events or a similar project-led environment? We are supporting an established and growing business looking to recruit a CAD Technician to join its busy design team. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of technically interesting, high-profile projects, producing the drawings and models used to take concepts through to fabrication and installation. The role would suit someone who genuinely enjoys CAD and technical design, is comfortable working across multiple projects and can combine strong attention to detail with a practical understanding of how things are actually manufactured and built.

The Role

As CAD Technician, you will:

• Create and develop accurate 2D technical drawings and 3D models.
• Produce layouts for structures, steelwork, site plans and installation requirements.
• Work from concept sketches, technical briefs and client specifications.
• Develop and revise drawings based on feedback from project, engineering, production and site teams.
• Produce detailed drawings suitable for fabrication and construction.
• Prepare accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and component schedules.
• Support spatial planning and structural layouts.
• Produce drawings for planning applications (venues), build manuals and Health & Safety documentation.
• Review technical information and identify potential design or build issues before they reach fabrication or site.
• Maintain accurate CAD files and consistent drawing standards.
• Liaise closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, engineers and operational teams.
• Attend site when required to verify dimensions, layouts and site conditions.
• Manage several drawing packages and projects simultaneously against deadlines.

About You

We are looking for someone with:

• Strong AutoCAD 2D experience.
• Previous experience producing technical drawings within construction, steel fabrication, engineering, events or a related environment.
• A good understanding of construction methods, materials and structural components.
• Experience producing BOMs and component schedules.
• The ability to understand spatial layouts and translate concepts into accurate technical drawings.
• Strong numerical and technical problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach.
• The confidence to question drawings or specifications where you identify potential issues.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
• Experience with Revit, SketchUp, Inventor or other 3D CAD packages would be highly advantageous.
