Conservation Officer (Paintings) - Entry Level

We are looking for a Conservation Officer to assist with the assessment of paintings and artefacts and minor treatments.

Up to $3,500 per month West Area Mon - Fri, 8.15am - 5.30pm 6-month contract (Training is provided)

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct condition assessments, photographic documentation and minor conservation treatments on paintings, artworks and artefacts in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with conservation preparation and preventive care activities , including artwork mounting, re-housing and stretcher assembly.
  • Support canvas flattening, storage preparation and exhibition-related conservation requirements to ensure the proper preservation and handling of artworks.
  • Provide administrative and documentation support, including printing, scanning, uploading and filing conservation records and related documents.
  • Collaborate closely with the Paintings team and assist with ad-hoc conservation duties, operational tasks and special projects as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Possesses minimum a recognised Diploma, with a background in art or prior conservation-related training or internship experience.
  • Ability to handle fragile materials with a high degree of manual dexterity and sensitivity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
