About the company

Scento is Europe's largest website for perfume decants. Founded in 2024, the company is headquartered in Paris at Place Vendôme and has a second office in Berlin. Scento offers more than 1,000 original designer and niche fragrances as decants from a portfolio of 200 perfume houses: 2 ml, 5 ml, and 8 ml vials, as well as a 30 ml bottle for most fragrances. With perfume samples of niche and designer scents, a fragrance can be discovered before deciding on a full bottle. Every perfume is an original from authorized European retailers, and every bottle undergoes a 12-point incoming inspection in Scento's ISO-certified facility before decanting.

Scento supplies customers in 27 European markets and ships to 26 EU countries. Scento's annual revenue in 2026 is more than 30 million euros, combined online and offline. On Scento.com, the monthly sales of decants in September 2026 were 3.2 times higher than in January 2026. According to its own figures, Scento sells more than 3 million perfume decants per year, approximately one every 10 seconds. In November 2025, Scento announced it would invest 25 million euros over three years into the discovery of perfume in Europe.

Your tasks

Scento operates its own shop on Next.js and its own commerce backend on Medusa, Node.js, TypeScript, and PostgreSQL, as well as a custom-built checkout on Stripe. This platform carries the sale of perfume samples, seasonal products such as the perfume advent calendar, and gift sets throughout Europe.

As a Staff Engineer, you will shape their architecture. You will set technical standards, ensure that pages load quickly and payments process reliably, and raise the level of the entire engineering team. Success means: we deliver faster, the platform remains stable as traffic increases, and the best ideas from Product and Growth go live without friction.

  • You design the architecture of Scento's commerce platform: Next.js storefront and Medusa backend on PostgreSQL.
  • You build and harden our own checkout with Stripe, including multiple currencies and languages.
  • You lead in performance (Core Web Vitals), reliability, observability, and security.
  • You establish engineering standards, review code, and mentor other engineers in everyday work.
  • You work directly with Product, Growth, and Operations on high-impact features.
  • You decide pragmatically between speed and sustainability and make your trade-offs understandable to everyone.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience with production web systems, several of them at Staff or Principal level.
  • Expert knowledge in TypeScript, React, and Next.js, as well as sound knowledge of Node.js and PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with payments, Headless Commerce, or high-traffic E-Commerce.
  • Fluent English.

What we offer

  • A salary at the upper end of the market plus an annual performance bonus.
  • Remote-friendly within the EU, with offices in Paris (Place Vendôme) and Berlin.
  • A generous monthly perfume budget to discover the entire catalog.
  • A personal learning budget of €2,500 per year for courses, conferences, and books.
  • Choice of equipment and a home office budget.
  • 30 days of paid vacation per year, in addition to statutory holidays.
  • Real responsibility and fast decision-making in a company that is growing rapidly in Europe.

Salary: €140,000 to €185,000 gross per year, full-time, permanent, plus an annual performance bonus.
