Product Owner – Registration Services | Diegem
Our client is a non-profit European organization, human-sized and resolutely technology-oriented, which plays a key role in the European digital ecosystem.
In a context of platform modernization and development of new services, they are looking for a Product Owner to define the product vision, drive the roadmap, and prioritize upcoming evolutions.
You will join a dynamic and multicultural team, where your work will contribute directly to digital services used across Europe.
All within offices located in Diegem, on the doorstep of Brussels.
The Position
- Based in Diegem and integrated into the Technology department, you will hold a key role at the intersection of business, architecture, engineering, service delivery, compliance, and security.
- Define and carry the vision, roadmap, and priorities for registration services, which are critical activities for the organization.
- Translate strategic, operational, regulatory, and stakeholder needs into a clear product direction and concrete priorities.
- Support the modernization of the registration platform and shape the next generation of services.
- Find the right balance between immediate service improvements and long-term challenges: modernization, resilience, security, and technological sovereignty.
Role
- Define and evolve the vision, strategy, and roadmap for registration services: registration platform, EPP, APIs, RDAP, domain name lifecycle, and data analytics capabilities.
- Translate business and technical strategies, Business Owners' expectations, registrars' needs, and regulatory obligations into clear product objectives, transparently arbitrating between value, urgency, risk, and delivery capacity.
- Collaborate closely with Business Operations, Architecture & Service Design, Engineering, Service Delivery, Compliance, and Security teams to ensure requirements are understood, achievable, and aligned.
- Align with Business Owners on product direction and manage dependencies with other products, services, and processes, clarifying scope and responsibilities upfront.
- Provide clear product direction to Business Analysts and validate functional requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
- Remain involved throughout the delivery cycle, drive functional validation, and contribute to production deployment decisions (go/no-go).
- Reconcile immediate operational needs with platform modernization, technical sustainability, resilience, and security.
- Define and monitor product and service indicators (adoption, usability, quality of service) and translate them into roadmap and backlog improvements.
- Ensure product compliance with regulatory, security, and data protection requirements (GDPR, NIS2, AI regulations, internal policies).
- Contribute to the development of the organization's data & analytics capabilities and, if applicable, assume product responsibility for them.
- Maintain a watch on developments from ICANN, IETF, CENTR, and the domain name ecosystem, and represent the organization in working groups and industry discussions.
Profile
- University degree in computer science, engineering, business, information systems, or a similar field, or equivalent professional experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in technological products or services, including significant experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or in a comparable product leadership role.
- Proven experience in defining roadmaps, managing complex backlogs, and arbitrating between business, operational, and technical needs.
- Strong mastery of product management and business analysis practices (requirement gathering, process modeling, user stories, acceptance criteria). Knowledge of BABOK, BPMN, UML, or ArchiMate is an asset.
- Technical culture allowing for the understanding of system architecture, integrations, data flows, and data architectures (data lakes, data warehouses, governance, reporting).
- Very good knowledge of the software delivery cycle and agile methods, with practical experience in release planning and cross-functional collaboration.
- A good understanding of the domain name ecosystem (Registry-Registrar-Registrant model, EPP, WHOIS/RDAP, DNS provisioning) is strongly desired.
- Experience in a regulated sector or with critical services (telecoms, for example), as well as knowledge of NIS2 and GDPR, is an asset.
- Strategic product thinking, a pragmatic delivery-oriented mindset, and the ability to make informed decisions in uncertain situations.
- Excellent stakeholder management, facilitation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build consensus without hierarchical authority and to simplify complex topics.
- Excellent English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of other European languages is a plus.
