Job Description The Materials Engineer is responsible for supporting and improving the applications of materials used in existing technologies to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This position focuses on the evaluation and improvement of materials, processes, and suppliers to meet operational challenges and adapt to evolving needs. The Materials Engineer acts as a technical expert (SME - Subject Matter Expert) on material-related topics and provides technical support to manufacturing teams, field teams, and customers. Responsibilities include, notably, resolving material performance issues, developing and implementing process improvements, and ensuring operational continuity.
Responsibilities Support and improve material applications for existing technologies to ensure optimal performance, high reliability, and alignment with operational requirements. Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors on material-related activities, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality requirements. Advise on material selection, their properties, and ways to prevent failures in order to improve product performance and reliability. Develop, evaluate, and qualify new materials as well as special manufacturing processes, such as welding, heat treatments, compounding, and extrusion, and ensure their effective use. Perform material characterizations, testing, and analyses to resolve operational issues and improve performance. Write and maintain material and process specifications, technical standards, and procurement documentation, while ensuring compliance with quality requirements and industry standards. Perform failure analyses and predictive analyses to identify the causes of material-related problems and recommend improvements regarding their selection, modification, or implementation. Conduct technical reviews and approve specifications, requirements, and statements of work for contracts and subcontracts related to materials. Maintain technological watch on materials, processes, and industry standards to foster innovation and maintain a high level of technical expertise.
Profile sought / Experience and skills Master 2 level degree in Materials Science and Engineering. Understanding of manufacturing processes and material qualification methodologies. Ability to analyze technical issues, identify root causes, and propose pragmatic engineering solutions. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary and international environment. Proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Initial experience (internship, apprenticeship, or professional experience) in the Oil & Gas or Energy industry would be strongly appreciated.
