Stock Accountant

Robert Half are working with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation in seeking an experienced Stock Accountant to join their finance team on an initial 6-month contract. Based in Wiltshire, full time on site. This role will play a key part in supporting inventory reporting, project accounting activities, and driving insight through detailed variance analysis across a complex operational environment. This is an excellent opportunity for a finance professional with strong manufacturing or engineering experience and advanced SAP knowledge to make an immediate impact within a large, fast-paced business. Key Responsibilities Ownership of inventory and stock accounting processes Investigate and explain material, labour and manufacturing variances Analyse inventory movements and stock valuations Support month-end and year-end reporting activities Work closely with operational and project teams to ensure accurate financial reporting Assist with project accounting, including cost tracking and profitability analysis Review WIP (Work in Progress) balances and cost allocations Reconcile inventory-related balance sheet accounts Produce detailed management reports and financial analysis for senior stakeholders Identify opportunities to improve financial controls and reporting processes Key Requirements Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or Qualified by Experience Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering or project-based environment Strong understanding of stock accounting, inventory controls and costing principles Proven experience conducting detailed variance analysis Project accounting experience desirable Advanced SAP experience is essential
