RISE is seeking an institute doctoral student in autonomous systems and particularly Human interaction with intelligent systems-of-systems, with placement at RISE SICS East in Linköping. The project will be conducted in close collaboration with Linköping University and external industry partners.

Tasks The institute doctoral student will conduct research within autonomous systems and particularly Human interaction with intelligent systems-of-systems, with the aim of gaining new knowledge on how to design effective and safe control of intelligent systems-of-systems with emergent behavior. This includes questions regarding operators' work environments and collaboration, user interfaces and controls, as well as situational awareness and the ability to handle disruptions, with a focus on challenges for the aviation industry. The approach is based on Collaborative Design, which means that the intelligent systems are designed to function as interdependent teammates. The research will be carried out in a series of prototypes.

Eligibility and qualifications Suitable educational background is a relevant civilingenjör degree or a master's in cognitive science, design, computer science with a focus on human–computer interaction. The applicant should have knowledge in several of the following scientific areas: (a) autonomous systems and systems-of-systems; (b) interaction design; (c) human factors; (d) distributed and situated cognition; and (e) quantitative and qualitative research methods. Previous experience in visualization and programming in applied research is also meritorious.

The applicant must also have basic eligibility for doctoral education: (1) completed a degree at an advanced level; (2) fulfilled course requirements of at least 240 hp, of which at least 60 hp are at an advanced level; or (3) in some other way, within or outside the country, acquired knowledge substantially corresponding to this.

The institute doctoral student will be attached to the department for Interactive and Cognitive Systems at the Department of Computer Science at Linköping University, and will participate in the department's doctoral education in cognitive science, computer science, or design. Which of the three doctoral subjects it will be depends on the individual's educational background.

The applicant needs to have great drive and be able to plan and carry out your work independently.
