Waste Management Supervisor

Location: Loughborough with the site in Bardon as a secondary base when required. Pay Rate: £14.83 per hour Contract: Full-time

About the Role

We are recruiting for a Waste Management Supervisor to oversee Waste Transfer Station (WTS) and Waste Haulage operations on behalf of Leicestershire County Council. This is a hands-on supervisory role responsible for ensuring waste management services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant legislation and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the day-to-day operation of Waste Transfer Stations and Waste Haulage services.
• Lead, support, and manage a team of drivers and site employees.
• Manage attendance, recruitment, training, performance reviews, and disciplinary matters where required.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation, environmental regulations, and operational procedures.
• Monitor driver and vehicle compliance, including tachograph records and vehicle inspections.
• Ensure daily and weekly vehicle checks are completed and recorded.
• Deliver inductions, toolbox talks, and ongoing training to staff.
• Conduct regular site inspections and maintain accurate records relating to health and safety, quality, security, and environmental standards.
• Operate the weighbridge system when required and process payments where necessary.
• Monitor fuel usage and provide reports as required.
• Liaise with fleet teams to ensure vehicles are serviced, inspected, and maintained in line with legal requirements.
• Coordinate contractors and maintenance activities to support smooth site operations.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and implement new working practices.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, contractors, customers, and stakeholders.
• Ensure information is managed securely and in accordance with council policies.
• Provide operational cover for sites and colleagues when required.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous supervisory experience within waste management, transport, logistics, recycling, or a similar operational environment.
• Strong leadership and people management skills.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation and operational compliance requirements.
• Experience managing drivers, fleet operations, or site-based teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities.
• A flexible and proactive approach to work.
• A CoTC qualification is desirable but not essential.

The role would be based mainly at Loughborough, but from time to time you may be required at another site in Bardon.
