SEN Teaching Assistant – 1:1 Support

Plymouth Primary School | Via Reed Education £14.61 per hour | Monday-Friday, 12:15pm-3:15pm Reed Education is seeking a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) at a welcoming primary school in Plymouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience supporting children with additional needs, particularly those with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), social communication needs, or developmental delays. The role involves supporting children during lunchtime and delivering targeted interventions in the afternoon. The Role As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide dedicated 1:1 support to children with additional needs, helping them access their school day safely, positively, and successfully. This role combines mealtime supervision, behavioural and sensory support, and the delivery of focused learning interventions. Key Responsibilities Providing 1:1 support for children with SEN throughout lunchtime and afternoon sessions. Supervising and supporting a child during eating and lunchtime activities to ensure their safety and wellbeing. Delivering a short daily phonics intervention following lunchtime. Supporting children to engage with learning activities and work towards individual EHCP targets. Encouraging positive social interaction and emotional regulation. Assisting with transitions throughout the school day. Promoting independence whilst providing appropriate support and reassurance. Following individual support plans and agreed strategies set by the school. Working closely with teaching staff and SEN professionals to ensure consistent support. The Ideal Candidate Has experience supporting children with SEN, ideally including ASC, ADHD, or developmental needs (essential). Is patient, nurturing, and able to remain calm in a range of situations. Understands how to adapt their approach to meet individual needs. Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Can build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents. Is confident supporting both learning and social development.
