Facilities Officer

Location: Crawley Hours: Monday to Friday, 2:00pm - 10:00pm Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

My client is looking for a proactive and dependable Facilities Officer to join their team and help ensure their buildings, grounds and facilities remain safe, secure and well-maintained. This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone with practical maintenance experience who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in delivering high standards.

Working as part of the facilities team, you will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day operation of the site, supporting staff, visitors and building users while maintaining a safe, compliant and welcoming environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out general building maintenance, repairs and minor improvement works.
  • Undertake a range of multi-trade duties including basic carpentry, plumbing, decorating and flooring repairs.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings, grounds and facilities, identifying and resolving maintenance issues.
  • Open, close and secure buildings and grounds, carrying out regular security checks.
  • Monitor alarms, CCTV and site security systems.
  • Support health and safety compliance, including fire safety inspections and record keeping.
  • Liaise with contractors and ensure adherence to site procedures and safety requirements.
  • Set up rooms and facilities for meetings, events, lettings and operational activities.
  • Support community use of facilities during evenings and other scheduled periods.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and site assets in a safe and serviceable condition.
  • Assist with sustainability, recycling and energy-efficiency initiatives.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • Experience in facilities management, site maintenance or a similar role.
  • Practical multi-trade maintenance skills.
  • A good understanding of health and safety responsibilities.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • A flexible, reliable and positive approach to work.

Desirable

  • Experience working within a school, education or public-sector environment.
  • Knowledge of building compliance, fire safety and site security procedures.
  • Full UK driving licence.
