Saturday Library Assistant - Part Time

Location: Barbican Library, Barbican Centre, Silk Street, London, EC2Y 8DS Pay Rate: £17.98 per hour (PAYE) Contract: Temporary until 31 July 2027 Hours: 6 hours per week, Saturdays only Department: Community and Children's Services, Barbican and Community Libraries

We are looking for friendly, enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to join our library team as Saturday Library Assistants. In this role, you will help customers access library services, support library activities, process loans and returns, promote reading and learning, and contribute to maintaining a welcoming library environment. You should be passionate about helping people, supporting literacy and learning, and making a positive difference in your community,

We are looking for someone who:

• Enjoys working with people of all ages and backgrounds
• Has excellent customer service and communication skills
• Is reliable, adaptable and able to work as part of a team
• Has basic IT skills and is comfortable learning new systems

Front-line customer service experience is essential. Previous library experience is desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided.

• Has experience working with children under 5 years old, such as through early years, childcare, educational or community settings (desirable)

Please note that this role is part-time and involves working one 6-hour shift each week, scheduled every Saturday.
