Retrieval Officer
National Library | Wetherby (Boston Spa) Site-Based Role | Free Parking Available Immediate Start 3-Month Temporary Contract with Potential Extension £13.45 per hour
Are you looking for an opportunity to work within a nationally recognised library service, supporting the retrieval, storage and management of valuable collections? We are seeking a Retrieval Officer to join a busy operational team based in Wetherby (Boston Spa) .
This is a hands-on role requiring excellent attention to detail, strong teamwork skills and a commitment to delivering outstanding customer service. Applicants must be able to commute to the site as this is a fully office-based position.
The Role
As a Retrieval Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing of customer orders while maintaining the integrity and security of the library's collection. You will contribute to achieving service delivery targets and ensuring collection items are retrieved, stored and tracked correctly.
Key Responsibilities
- Promptly and accurately retrieve collection items to fulfil customer orders and meet service KPIs.
- Ingest collection items into storage locations accurately and efficiently.
- Use catalogues, IT systems and standard operating procedures to resolve collection item queries.
- Support stock audits and collection moves across storage facilities.
- Ensure all items are accurately tracked and updated within the Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Assist with the retrieval, digitisation and preparation of collection materials for delivery.
- Return collection items to storage safely and accurately.
- Support collection care activities and identify items requiring specialist attention.
- Contribute to stock movement projects to maximise storage capacity.
- Work flexibly across different storage facilities and operational areas as required.

Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of library collections or archive environments.
- Experience working within storage, logistics, warehouse or retrieval operations.
- Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
- Confidence adapting to changing processes and procedures.
