Research Manager
(Interim, 1-3 Months)
Location: London Contract: Temporary (1-3 months) Salary Equivalent: £40,000 - £50,000 per annum (depending on experience)
We are seeking an experienced Research Manager to join a busy and collaborative higher education research team on an interim basis. This role will provide essential support across research management, grant administration, research compliance, and postgraduate research activities.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with previous experience in a university research support environment who can quickly build relationships, manage competing priorities, and provide high-quality support to academic staff and researchers.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Support academic and research staff with research management queries.
- Produce monthly reports on grants awarded, submitted bids, and bids in development using Worktribe and Excel.
- Support Research Advisory Group meetings, including data preparation and minute-taking.
- Coordinate the administration of funding opportunities and demand-managed funding calls.
- Assist academics with grant-related studentship requests.
- Support peer review processes for grant applications.
- Prepare and coordinate Letters and Statements of Support.
- Monitor publication records and support Open Access and REF compliance activities.
- Maintain research-related guidance documentation and SharePoint pages.
- Update research funding information for internal communications and newsletters.
- Liaise with operational teams regarding newly awarded grants and recruitment activity.
In addition, you will support the Postgraduate Research Officer by:
- Assisting with PhD student onboarding and ongoing administration.
- Monitoring student progression and reporting on key milestones.
- Supporting postgraduate research events, including PhD poster presentations.
- Providing cover for urgent student matters when required.
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Experience in research management, research support, grants administration, or higher education administration.
- Strong data analysis and reporting skills, particularly using Excel.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience managing multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable
- Experience using Worktribe or similar research management systems.
- Knowledge of UK research funding processes.
- Understanding of Open Access and REF compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting postgraduate research programmes.
