Housing Options Officer
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Housing Options Officer to join a busy local authority housing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with strong homelessness and housing options experience who is confident managing their own caseload and making statutory housing decisions.
The successful candidate will assess homelessness applications, provide housing advice, prevent homelessness where possible, and ensure the Council meets its statutory duties under homelessness legislation.
Location: Town Hall, SL6 Working Arrangements: Hybrid (1-2 days per week in the office) Rate: £18.77 PAYE / £20.16 Umbrella Contract: Temporary until January 2027, with potential to become permanent Full time: Monday to Friday - Core office hours. The successful candidate will assess homelessness applications, provide housing advice, prevent homelessness where possible, and ensure the Council meets its statutory duties under homelessness legislation.
Key Responsibilities Assess and investigate homelessness applications under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996. Deliver homelessness prevention and relief duties in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act. Manage a personal caseload independently. Conduct detailed housing needs assessments and create Personal Housing Plans. Make statutory homelessness decisions and issue decision letters. Work closely with customers and partner agencies to prevent homelessness wherever possible. Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with legislation and service standards. Provide high-quality housing advice to residents facing housing difficulties. Essential Requirements Previous experience working within a Housing Options, Housing Needs or Homelessness service within a Local Authority. Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation, including the Housing Act 1996 and Homelessness Reduction Act. Experience assessing homelessness applications and making statutory decisions. Ability to manage a varied caseload independently. Strong communication, interviewing and problem-solving skills.
