We are recruiting for a Housing Options Officer to join a busy and supportive Housing team within a Berkshire-based Council. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference by helping residents facing housing difficulties and preventing homelessness wherever possible.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide housing advice and homelessness prevention support to residents.
• Conduct housing needs assessments and homelessness interviews.
• Assess homelessness applications in line with Housing Act legislation.
• Manage a varied caseload of complex housing cases.
• Identify sustainable housing solutions and help prevent homelessness.
• Arrange and facilitate temporary accommodation placements where required.
• Liaise with landlords, housing associations, support agencies and internal departments.
• Maintain accurate case records and ensure compliance with legislation and service standards.
• Support vulnerable individuals and families through challenging circumstances.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Previous experience within a Housing Options, Housing Needs, Homelessness Prevention, Homelessness Assessment, or Housing Advice team.
• Strong knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing law.
• Experience managing a caseload within a Local Authority or Housing Association environment.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and customer service skills.
• The ability to make informed decisions and manage sensitive situations professionally.
• Experience working with vulnerable customers and partner agencies.
