Permanent | Full-Time | 40 Hours per Week Salary: £77,676 - £85,547 per annum We are seeking an experienced and passionate Head of School to lead a specialist education setting that supports children and young people aged 6-19 with complex learning needs, including severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), physical disabilities, autism, and associated medical needs. This is an exciting opportunity for a senior leader to shape the strategic direction of a highly specialist school, driving excellence in education, safeguarding, and operational performance while ensuring every young person receives the support, they need to achieve their full potential. The Role Working closely with the principal and wider leadership team, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership and management of the school. Similar in scope to a Headteacher position, you will oversee educational outcomes, operational performance, financial management, safeguarding, and staff development.

Key Responsibilities Lead the strategic and operational management of the school. Establish and maintain a positive school ethos focused on achievement, inclusion, and wellbeing. Develop and implement effective school improvement plans. Monitor educational performance and drive continuous improvement. Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory requirements. Manage budgets and allocate resources effectively. Lead, support, and develop teaching, support, and leadership staff. Conduct quality assurance activities, including lesson observations and performance management. Build strong relationships with families, local authorities, external professionals, and other stakeholders. Work collaboratively with the principal to promote outstanding outcomes for all pupils. About You We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate: Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). A recognised leadership qualification, such as NPQH, or willingness to work towards one. Significant senior leadership experience within a specialist SEND environment. Experience supporting pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), PMLD, and complex learning needs. Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation and Ofsted requirements. Experience in school improvement, quality assurance, and performance management. Excellent financial, operational, and people management skills. Outstanding communication and stakeholder management abilities. The ability to inspire, motivate, and develop high-performing teams.
