Head of Family Department

An ambitious and forward-thinking law firm is looking to establish and grow a brand-new Family Law department , and is seeking a Head of Family Law or a Senior Family Solicitor ready to step into a leadership role. This is a rare opportunity to build a department from the ground up , shape its strategy, and make a significant impact within a growing firm.

This role would suit someone currently operating at Senior Associate, Partner, or Head of Department level , or an experienced Family Solicitor with proven team leadership or management experience who is ready for the next step.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and grow the Family Law department from inception
• Manage and mentor junior solicitors, paralegals, and support staff
• Drive business development, networking, and client acquisition strategies
• Handle a broad caseload of privately funded family matters , including divorce, finances, and child arrangements
• Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term growth of the firm
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and referrers

Candidate Profile

• Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales, ideally 5+ PQE though strong candidates at other levels will be considered
• Extensive experience in Family Law, including divorce, financial remedy, and private children matters
• Proven experience managing or supervising a team or demonstrating leadership capability
• Strong business development mindset with the ability to generate work and grow a department
• Excellent communication, client care, and organisational skills
• Ambition to take ownership of a department and progress towards Partnership or Equity
