Deputy General Manager
Stansted | Up to £42,000 per annum | Full-Time (40 hours per week, 5 days out of 7)

We are seeking a motivated and dynamic Deputy General Manager to support the smooth and efficient running of a prestigious residential and its beautiful grounds in Stansted. This is a varied and rewarding role that combines operational leadership, people management, guest experience and strategic support.
Working closely with the General Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining exceptional standards across the site while helping to create a positive and engaging environment for guests, students and staff alike.
The Role
As Deputy General Manager, you will oversee day-to-day operations, support departmental managers and deputise for the General Manager when required. You will be instrumental in driving operational excellence, developing teams and ensuring an outstanding customer experience.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Leadership
- Support the management of operational, administrative and structural processes across the organisation.
- Review and improve departmental procedures to enhance efficiency and performance.
- Assist in coordinating residential and online programmes.
- Monitor operational performance and provide support across departments.
- Build strong working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders and external partners.
- Produce operational reports, documents and spreadsheets.
- Support the delivery of major events, including Study Weeks, Open Weeks, weddings and private functions.
- Attend relevant meetings, training sessions and development activities.
- Provide Duty Manager night cover and on-call support when required.
Guest Experience
- Deliver excellent customer service to guests, students and tutors.
- Handle enquiries professionally via phone, email and face-to-face interactions.
- Support daily operations and respond proactively to the needs of residents and visitors.
Staffing & People Management
- Assist with workforce planning, rota management and arranging cover when required.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, training and performance management activities.
- Help develop and maintain departmental standards and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with Departmental Managers and provide operational cover when necessary.
- Authorise annual leave and, when delegated, approve timesheets, overtime and TOIL.

- Previous experience in a Deputy General Manager, Operations Manager, Hospitality Manager or similar leadership role.
- Strong people management and team development experience.
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding communication and customer service skills.
- Strong administrative skills, including experience producing reports and using spreadsheets.
- A flexible approach to working hours, including occasional evenings and weekends as required.
