Assistant Bursar (Finance)
£35,000 - £40,000 per annum | Full-Time | Permanent | Year-Round
Are you a qualified finance professional looking for a rewarding role within a thriving educational environment? We are seeking an experienced Assistant Bursar (Finance) to support the effective financial management of a well-established independent school.
Working closely with the Bursar, you will play a key role in the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong controls, and efficient processes across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting all aspects of financial and management accounting
- Preparing monthly management accounts, reconciliations and financial reports
- Monitoring budgets and producing variance analysis
- Assisting with forecasting, budgeting and financial planning
- Managing supplier payments, banking processes and cashflow monitoring
- Overseeing fee billing, invoicing and credit control activities
- Preparing VAT returns and supporting year-end audit processes
- Assisting with payroll and pension administration
- Maintaining effective financial controls and compliance procedures
- Supporting and guiding finance administration colleagues
- Identifying opportunities to improve systems, processes and reporting
About You
We are looking for a talented and proactive finance professional who can combine strong technical expertise with excellent communication and organisational skills.
You will have:
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualification
- Proven experience in financial and management accounting
- Experience of budget monitoring and financial reporting
- Strong knowledge of finance and payroll systems
- Excellent IT skills, including confidence working with financial software
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- A collaborative and professional approach with a high level of integrity and discretion
Previous experience within a school or education setting would be advantageous but is not essential.
