Community News Reporter – Travel Industry
We are very excited to be working with one of the UK’s fastest growing travel trade media brands, which is expanding its team rapidly. They are looking to recruit a new full-time Community News Reporter, to help deliver daily editorial output for a well-established travel B2B media news service, that has already made a significant impact on the travel industry through its news coverage, marketing, training and networking. This is a fabulous opportunity to join an ambitious, fast-moving operation where you can put your mark on a key role and work closely with editors to shape what lands in the inbox and on their digital site daily. This role might appeal to someone moving from another trade publication, but who is genuinely interested in the travel industry and able to travel. The role will work mostly from home, with regular requirements to attend travel industry events in London, therefore we are ideally looking for someone based in, or close to London (within the M25).
Key responsibilities You will be responsible for helping deliver the daily news agenda, including:
- Writing accurate copy, to tight deadlines
- Working on press releases on agent offers
- Identifying and publishing breaking news stories
- Generating on and off-diary stories
- Contributing to the team’s editorial output
- Attending and reporting from regular travel industry events across the UK and overseas when required
- Promoting stories and events across social media channels
- Building relationships with PRs, travel brands and suppliers
- Delivering sharp angles, compelling copy and strong headline crafting
The successful person will have around one year's experience in a similar role, who has maybe been a community reporter, and who loves digging up human interest stories from within the industry, but someone who can also turn their hand to writing light-touch articles about a company's financial results or travel regulations, with strong news judgement and the ability to identify a trade-relevant news story, as this is not a features role. You will have excellent writing skills and headline crafting ability, with confidence in interviewing, and a pro-active, organised approach. A willingness to represent the company at events, such as conferences, launches and press trips (mainly in London) is essential. Knowledge of the travel industry is not essential, but a willingness to learn and develop an understanding is important – your news reporting experience is the priority.
Our client offers a highly competitive salary; great company benefits and the opportunity to join a growing brand where your input will genuinely shape the output. For further information, please send your CV and covering letter, plus links to three of your best news stories.
