Role: System Engineer - Unix/Linux

Job Description

We're looking for a detail-oriented and collaborative Engineer, Unix/Linux System to join our growing infrastructure team in Singapore. In this role, you'll take ownership of managing, maintaining, and supporting our Unix/Linux systems while ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security. You'll work alongside experienced professionals in a supportive environment where innovation and continuous improvement are valued. The ideal candidate will be analytical, organized, and resilient—ready to tackle complex technical challenges while contributing to our organization's infrastructure goals.

  • Administer and manage Unix/Linux servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu) including operational tasks, backup procedures, and SLA compliance
  • Ensure high availability and performance of Unix/Linux platforms supporting critical business functions
  • Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure issues impacting system operations in a timely and efficient manner
  • Perform system monitoring, performance analysis, and optimization using industry-standard tools
  • Execute patching, updates, and vulnerability management to maintain system security and stability
  • Develop and maintain shell scripts (Bash, Korn) to automate routine tasks and improve operational efficiency
  • Design and implement infrastructure solutions following best practices and organizational standards
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting processes for knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with team members, stakeholders, and project management to support infrastructure initiatives
  • Participate in testing and implementation of new technologies and services
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior team members as appropriate
  • Suggest process improvements based on emerging technologies, best practices, and changing business requirements
  • Support disaster recovery planning and exercises to ensure business continuity

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience in Unix/Linux system administration
  • Strong knowledge of Linux distributions (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Korn shell)
  • Solid understanding of file systems, LVM, and RAID configurations
  • Experience with system monitoring and alerting tools (Nagios, Zabbix, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, NFS, SSH)
  • Experience with patching and vulnerability management processes
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, or Chef)
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes basics)
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Knowledge of version control systems (Git)
  • Experience with performance tuning and system optimization
  • Proactive, detail-oriented mindset with a commitment to continuous learning
  • Relevant Unix/Linux certifications (RHCSA, LPIC, or equivalent)
