O&G Team Lead - Product Controller

About the company

The Team Lead for Product Control is to ensure the integrity and accuracy of trading positions, P&L reporting, valuation processes, and risk exposures across the trading portfolio. Serving as an independent control pillar between the Front Office, Risk, Operations, and Finance teams, this role provides rigorous oversight and challenge of trading activities. The incumbent will manage daily control operations, mentor the Product Control team, implement process improvements, and support strategic initiatives to deliver actionable insights to senior management.

Your tasks

about the job

• Direct the Product Control team to ensure the accurate and timely reporting of trading positions, valuations, exposures, and P&L.
• Oversee end-to-end trade validation and reconciliation, actively investigating and resolving discrepancies for physical and derivative trading activities.
• Independently review and challenge MTM valuations, forward curves, P&L movements, and risk exposures to maintain robust independent price verification.
• Lead the Singapore region's contribution to the Follow-the-Sun support model, ensuring continuous trading control coverage, timely escalation management, and coordination with global teams.
• Collaborate with Trading, Risk, Operations, and Finance teams to enforce strict internal controls and optimize efficient end-to-end trading processes.
• Execute month-end close activities, complex reconciliations, and management reporting tailored to performance and exposure analysis.
• Drive structured enhancements to operating procedures, reporting workflows, internal controls, and automation to mitigate operational risk and improve efficiency.
• Serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for ETRM platforms while actively supporting system improvements, audits, compliance requirements, and strategic business initiatives.

Requirements

skills and experience required

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in Product Control, Risk Control, Market Risk, or Trading Finance within commodity or energy trading environments.
• Proven experience overseeing both physical and derivative trading portfolios.
• Prior experience leading, mentoring, or managing a team is preferred.
• Strong understanding of commodity trading activities, valuation methodologies, and P&L reporting.
• Experience with LPG, refined products, biofuels, or other commodity trading businesses is advantageous.
• Advanced Excel skills and extensive knowledge of ETRM systems and trading process flows.
• Experience with Power BI, VBA, or automation tools is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, leadership, and stakeholder management capabilities.
