Deputy/ Design Manager (Civil)
Job Description Direct and support the design and technical teams, ensuring that all design resolutions are highly optimized and fully meet client specifications.
Act as the primary liaison with external consultants and clients, driving an integrated approach to ensure the project aligns with overall operational requirements and strict regulatory standards.
Create and manage detailed submission schedules for both temporary and permanent works designs, ensuring all approvals (including local authorities, ACs, and clients) stay perfectly synchronized with the construction program.
Proactively value-engineer design proposals to identify opportunities that minimize overall construction costs without sacrificing quality.
Troubleshoot complex, on-the-ground site challenges and rapidly resolve technical discrepancies during project execution.
Inject expert technical insights into the project’s overarching planning, scheduling, and execution strategies.
Delegate tasks, guide, and mentor a high-performing team of Design Engineers and Senior Design Engineers.
Lead the preparation of Site Construction and Design Coordination (SCD) documentation to align consultant input regarding site changes and operational hurdles.
Requirements Education: A recognized Civil Engineering degree (acknowledged by the PE Board), or a qualification acceptable to the Commissioner of Building Control for Resident Engineer eligibility (or equivalent relevant field degrees).
Broad Experience: A minimum of 10 years of professional experience managing civil engineering and large-scale infrastructure projects.
Specialized Expertise: At least 8 years of hands-on design experience specifically focused on complex road or rail infrastructure.
Regulatory Navigation: A strong track record of managing agency and authority submissions, ensuring absolute regulatory compliance for project preparation and enabling works.
Technical Acumen: Deep familiarity with current Codes of Practice and specifications, paired with the ability to comfortably lead technical coordination discussions with clients.
