Works Co-ordinator

TATA Steel are currently looking for a Temporary Works Co-ordinator.

In the UK, the role is defined by the industry standard BS 5975 (Code of practice for temporary works). The TWC acts as the safety gatekeeper to ensure temporary structures are correctly designed, independently checked, safely erected, inspected, and controlled.

Role: Temporary Works Co-ordinator

• Shifts: Mon-Thu 07:30-15:45, Fri 07:30-14:45
• Pay: £40-43,000 (dependent upon experience) PH = £21.07-£22.66ph
• Duration: 3 years
• Location: TATA Steel, Port Talbot, SA13 2NG

Role & Responsibilities:

Maintaining the Temporary Works Register (TWR) Creates and keeps an up-to-date log of every single temporary works item required across the project.

Managing Design & Checks Ensures a design brief is issued for every temporary structure and that the resulting design is checked by a competent person before construction begins.

Issuing Permits Enforces formal procedural controls:

• Permit to Load: Issued before a temporary structure is put into service or loaded (e.g., pouring concrete onto falsework or driving a crane onto a temporary platform).
• Permit to Dismantle/Unload: Issued before removing temporary supports, ensuring the permanent structure has gained enough strength.

Overseeing Site Execution & Inspections Verifies that what gets built on-site matches the engineering design drawings and specifications.

Stop-Work Authority Has the authority to halt works immediately if temporary structures are unapproved, unsafe, or deviating from design.

Requirements:

• Experienced site engineer, construction manager, or civil engineer
• CITB Temporary Works Coordinator Training Course (TWCTC)
• SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) or SSSTS (Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme).
• NEBOSH Construction Certificate or NVQ Level 6/7 in Construction Site Management.
• CSCS Card: Black Manager Card or Gold Supervisor/Engineer Card, demonstrating foundational site entry and health & safety competence.
