Assistant Infant Care Teacher
Roles & Responsibilities
As an Assistant Infant Care Teacher, you will work closely with and support the Main Infant Care Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing and responsive environment for infants aged 2 to 18 months.
Your responsibilities include:
- Support the Main Infant Care Teacher in the daily care and supervision of infants.
- Attend to infants’ routine care needs, including feeding, diaper changing, bathing, toileting and nap routines.
- Ensure the health, hygiene, safety and well-being of infants at all times.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining a clean, safe and developmentally appropriate infant care environment.
- Support the Main Teacher in carrying out age-appropriate activities and experiences for infants.
- Prepare and organise materials and the environment for daily activities.
- Observe infants closely and promptly communicate any concerns regarding their health, behaviour or well-being to the Main Teacher.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards within the infant care environment.
- Work collaboratively with the teaching team and follow the centre’s routines, policies and safety procedures.
- Perform other infant care and classroom support duties as required.
This is a supporting role . The Assistant Infant Care Teacher will work under the guidance of the Main Infant Care Teacher and is not expected to take primary responsibility for curriculum planning or lead teaching duties .
Requirements
- Higher Certificate in Infant Care (HCIC) or equivalent qualification recognised by ECDA.
- Candidates must be eligible to work as an infant care educator/assistant in an ECDA-licensed preschool.
- Genuine interest in working with infants aged 2 to 18 months.
- Patient, attentive, responsible and comfortable with hands-on infant care routines.
- Good teamwork and communication skills.
- Able to maintain high standards of hygiene, safety and professionalism.
- Relevant infant care experience is an advantage.
This position is suitable for an HCIC-qualified candidate who enjoys working directly with infants and would like to support an experienced Main Infant Care Teacher as part of a professional infant care team.
