Associate Professor in Criminal Justice/Criminology

Responsibilities

Teach and supervise students at PhD, Master’s, and Undergraduate levels in areas as allocated by the Program Chair.

Provide primary or sole supervision of PhD and Master’s research students, guiding them through proposal development, research design, data collection and analysis, and thesis completion.

Assist in the design and delivery of curriculum. Transfer knowledge, including advanced research methods and analytical techniques, to colleagues and research students.

Develop and assess coursework, comprehensive examinations, and thesis milestones.

Participate in student support on academic, research, and career development matters.

Publish in high-quality, peer-reviewed criminology, criminal justice, and/or policing journals, and pursue externally funded research where possible.

Assist other faculty in the delivery of knowledge by creating appropriate presentations and teaching materials.

Adhere to the Academy's information security policies and procedures, and report breaches or other security risks accordingly.

Coordinate with other departments to facilitate the accomplishment of tasks and responsibilities, as and when needed.

Perform any other tasks assigned by the Program Chair and top management.

Required Background and Experience

Doctorate (PhD) in Criminology, Criminal Justice, Police Studies, or a related field.

Act as primary or sole supervisor for PhD and Master’s research candidates, taking responsibility for their timely and successful completion.

Strong PhD supervision experience, preferably five (5) PhD completions as primary or sole supervisor; alternatively, two (2) PhD and five (5) Master’s completions as primary or sole supervisor.

A minimum of ten (10) years of academic teaching and research experience in criminology, criminal justice, police studies, or a related field.

A proven record of publication in peer-reviewed journals and definable research projects and programs.

Operational or applied experience in policing, criminal justice, or crime-related fields is considered an asset.
