Plumber

We are seeking an experienced Plumber to join our Embassy Project team in Ghana. The successful candidate will be responsible for completing outstanding plumbing installations, rectifying defective or non-compliant works, and ensuring all plumbing systems meet project specifications and quality standards.

Roles & Responsibility

Install first fix plumbing systems in accordance with contract drawings, approved submittals, project specifications, and applicable plumbing codes and standards. Install and assemble a variety of piping systems, including copper, CPVC, PVC, and PPR pipework, using approved joining methods and installation techniques. Cut, thread, bend, support, and secure pipework installations, ensuring correct alignment, gradients, supports, and bracketry. Install sleeves, fire stopping systems, and penetration seals in accordance with approved details and fire protection requirements. Install sanitary fixtures and fittings, including washbasins, WCs, urinals, taps, mixers, traps, floor drains, cleanouts, isolation valves, backflow prevention devices, water heaters, and pumps. Set out and install plumbing fixtures at the correct locations, elevations, and centres in compliance with project drawings and accessibility requirements. Ensure all sanitary installations are completed, sealed, and finished to a high standard suitable for client inspection and acceptance. Perform pressure testing, flushing, chlorination, and sampling of domestic water systems in accordance with project procedures and relevant standards. Maintain accurate records of all testing, commissioning, and inspection activities using approved project documentation. Participate in preparatory, initial, follow-up, and final inspections as required by the project Quality Management System. Ensure concealed plumbing works are inspected and approved before ceilings, walls, chases, ducts, or other building elements are closed. Rectify defects, non-conformances, and snag items, including the removal and reinstallation of rejected or non-compliant work where necessary. Promptly report defects, quality concerns, and installation issues identified in existing works to the supervisor for corrective action. Verify delivered materials against approved submittals and notify management of any discrepancies, substitutions, or non-compliant products. Maintain a clean, organised, and secure work area, including proper management of tools, materials, and equipment. Protect completed works and surrounding finishes from damage during installation activities and ensure any completed installations remain free from contamination or deterioration. Maintain accurate as-built mark-ups and installation records to support final project documentation and handover. Execute all plumbing works in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, method statements, manufacturer recommendations, and project procedures. Escalate any conflicting instructions, design discrepancies, or unapproved changes to the supervisor before proceeding with installation activities. Comply with all Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) requirements, including permit-to-work procedures, risk assessments, and safe systems of work. Wear and maintain the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to site safety requirements at all times. Ensure that hot work, work at height, confined space entry, and work on live services are only undertaken with the appropriate permits and authorisations in place. Promote a proactive safety culture by identifying hazards, reporting unsafe conditions, and exercising stop-work authority whenever safety concerns arise.

Qualifications & Requirements:

A recognised trade qualification and a minimum of five years on commercial, institutional or diplomatic buildings.

At least two of those years on projects built to United States or European codes and inspected by a client representative.

Experience of sanitary ware installation to a finished standard is essential, and candidates should be able to talk through how they finish and protect a bathroom. Previous work on a United States Government or diplomatic project, and on a project running a formal non-conformance system, is an advantage.
