General Manager
(Construction) We are looking for an experienced and responsible General Manager (Construction) to lead and oversee the overall operations of our construction business. The candidate will be responsible for managing project planning, construction progress, manpower deployment, subcontractor coordination, cost control, workplace safety, and compliance with relevant regulations. The General Manager will ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities: Oversee the overall management and daily operations of construction projects Plan and monitor project schedules, progress, and resource allocation Lead and supervise project teams, site staff, and subcontractors Coordinate with clients, consultants, main contractors, suppliers, and relevant authorities Manage budgeting, cost control, and project financial performance Ensure compliance with workplace safety requirements, company policies, and statutory regulations Review contracts, project documentation, and operational procedures Resolve project issues, delays, disputes, and operational challenges effectively Develop business strategies to improve operational efficiency and project delivery Report to directors or senior management on project performance and company operations Project Oversight: Plan, coordinate, and manage construction projects from inception to completion. Develop project timelines, schedules, and milestones to ensure deadlines are met. Oversee contractors, subcontractors, and laborers to ensure work meets quality and safety standards. Budget and Financial Management: Prepare and monitor project budgets, ensuring cost control and profitability. Approve expenditures, manage contracts, and negotiate with suppliers and vendors. Address and resolve budget discrepancies and financial challenges. Team Leadership: Supervise and lead project managers, site supervisors, and support staff. Recruit, train, and evaluate employees, fostering a productive and collaborative work environment. Resolve disputes and challenges between team members or stakeholders. Client and Stakeholder Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring expectations are understood and met. Prepare regular progress reports and communicate updates to stakeholders. Address client concerns and ensure satisfaction with project outcomes. Compliance and Safety: Ensure all work adheres to building codes, legal regulations, and safety standards. Conduct site inspections and enforce strict safety protocols. Manage permits, licenses, and documentation required for projects. Strategic Planning: Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion. Develop strategies for optimizing operational efficiency and reducing costs. Assess risks and implement contingency plans for unforeseen challenges.
Key Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or above in Business Administration, Management, or a related field Minimum of 2–8 years of management experience, preferably in a similar role Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities Experience: Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in the Singapore construction industry, with at least 4–5 years in a senior management or Project Director role handling large-scale civil or building projects. Regulatory & Technical Knowledge: In-depth understanding of Singapore building codes, Security of Payment Act (SOPA), Public Sector Standard Conditions of Contract (PSSCOC) / REDAS contracts, and MOM WSH Act. Strong commercial acumen in procurement, tendering, cost control, and dispute resolution. Familiarity with Green Mark, CONQUAS, and IDD/BIM integration.
