Yard Material Handler – Telehandler/Forklift Operator

Telehandler/Forklift Operator Location: Cocoa Beach, FL Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shift: 1st Shift Pay Rate: Starts at $22.00 per hour (Higher rates available depending on experience) We are currently hiring a Telehandler/Forklift Operator for a structural steel fabrication environment in Cocoa Beach, FL. This is a full-time, first-shift opportunity offering consistent hours and competitive starting pay. Position Overview In this role, you will be responsible for handling and moving structural steel materials within a fabrication yard using powered equipment. You’ll support daily operations by ensuring materials are properly staged, organized, and ready for production or shipment.

Responsibilities Operate telehandlers and forklifts to move, stage, and load/unload I-beams, columns, plates, and fabricated steel components.

Organize yard inventory and stage materials for production, shipping, and erection schedules.

Read shop drawings, pick lists, and material tags to identify steel components accurately.

Load trucks, secure materials, and coordinate with drivers and shop personnel.

Complete routine equipment inspections and basic maintenance; report mechanical or safety concerns.

Follow OSHA safety standards, company procedures, and proper rigging and material-handling practices.

Requirements Experience operating telehandlers, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment in a steel yard or construction setting.

Ability to handle large structural steel members safely.

Basic ability to read blueprints or material tags preferred.

Knowledge of rigging, load balancing, and safe material handling.

Ability to work outdoors in changing weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs as needed.

Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
