Steel Fabrication Quality Control Specialist
Structural Steel Quality Inspector Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shift: 1st Shift Starting Pay: $32.00/hour, with potential for a higher rate based on experience Position Overview We are looking for a Quality Inspector with structural steel fabrication experience to inspect materials, welds, and finished components for compliance with specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. This is a hands-on, shop-floor position in an active, non-climate-controlled manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities Inspect structural steel components during fabrication and verify compliance with project requirements
Check welding and fabrication against AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC , and applicable standards
Inspect incoming materials, parts, and consumables for conformance
Document inspections and maintain accurate quality records and logs
Use and maintain quality inspection equipment and welding tools
Calibrate inspection and welding equipment as required
Support welder qualification, testing, and certification activities
Assist with training related to welding, fitting, and quality requirements
Maintain drawing control and other quality documentation
Work with production and management to identify and correct quality issues
Participate in continuous improvement and company training programs
Promote safe work practices throughout the facility
Required Qualifications 2+ years of structural steel fabrication experience
Background in quality control, inspection, or manufacturing
Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards
Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications
Experience using inspection tools such as:
Fillet weld gauges
V-WAC gauges
Squares
Tape measures
Other standard inspection equipment
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety
Preferred Qualifications Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification
Nondestructive testing experience, including:
Ultrasonic Testing (UT)
Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)
Penetrant Testing (PT)
Additional certifications involving structural steel, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection
Previous experience in a steel manufacturing environment
Work Environment Primarily working on the production floor with limited office work
Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility
Frequent standing, walking, and inspection of materials throughout the shift
