The junior systems engineer provides first-line support for the organization's IT infrastructure and assists senior engineers in maintaining on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments. The role focuses on monitoring systems, performing routine maintenance, resolving basic infrastructure issues, and supporting day-to-day IT operations while developing technical skills.

Key responsibilities

Infrastructure support

Monitor the health and availability of servers and infrastructure systems.

Perform routine server health checks and report issues to senior engineers.

Assist with user account administration in Active Directory.

Support routine operating system patching and updates.

Assist with server builds, deployments, and basic configuration tasks.

Perform basic troubleshooting of Windows and Linux servers.

Support backup operations and verify backup completion.

Update technical documentation and operational records.

Escalate complex incidents to senior engineers or managed service providers.

Microsoft Azure support

Assist with monitoring Microsoft Azure resources.

Perform basic administrative tasks for Azure Virtual Machines and storage services under supervision.

Support Azure backup and recovery activities.

Assist in reviewing Azure alerts and reporting issues.

Participate in cloud-related projects as assigned.

Security & governance

Follow organizational security policies and procedures.

Assist with routine patching and vulnerability remediation activities.

Apply basic security best practices during daily operations.

Maintain accurate operational and audit documentation.

Demonstrate basic awareness of cloud governance and identity management concepts.

Operations & support

Provide level 1 infrastructure support for incidents and service requests.

Support routine maintenance activities during planned maintenance windows.

Work with infrastructure, application, network, and security teams when required.

Follow established IT operational procedures and change management processes.

Continuously develop technical knowledge through training and hands-on experience.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related discipline.

3–5 years of experience in IT infrastructure or technical support.

Basic understanding of Windows Server, Linux, virtualization, or Microsoft Azure.

Willingness to learn enterprise infrastructure and cloud technologies.

Good troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.

Knowledge of ITIL concepts is an advantage.
