Head of Compliance & MLRO

About the company

We're currently working with a brilliant top 200 law firm looking for a Head of Risk & Compliance to take ownership of the function and act as MLRO.

Your tasks

You’ll work closely with the COLP and Board, advising on the issues coming through day to day while keeping an eye on the bigger picture. This is a broad compliance role, a seat at the table and the opportunity to influence how a firm manages risk.

• Leading and developing the firm’s compliance framework, policies and procedures.
• Advising the COLP and Board on regulatory requirements and emerging risks.
• Taking on MLRO responsibility, including internal suspicious activity reports and disclosures to the NCA.
• Overseeing AML risk assessments and CDD processes.
• Managing complaints and liaising with the Legal Ombudsman and SRA.
• Overseeing audits, risk registers and compliance breaches.
• Delivering training that helps colleagues understand how the requirements apply to their work.

Requirements

• You’ll bring significant compliance experience, ideally within a law firm.
• You’ll have strong knowledge of SRA requirements and AML legislation.
• You’re comfortable advising senior stakeholders and challenging when something needs a closer look.
• You can give practical, commercially minded advice and explain the reasoning behind it.
• You enjoy taking ownership, building relationships and finding ways to improve how things are done.
• You’ll be educated to degree level.
