QAI has an exciting career opportunity with the Building Products department. We are currently looking for a Testing Technician to join our Toronto, ON location. Our ideal candidate would be someone who has a technical diploma with four years of experience or more, working in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry, with knowledge of common ASTM, UL and CSA test methods relating to building products. Flexibility in work schedule and working overtime, if needed, is ideal.

*DUTIES:* The successful candidate will perform, but not be limited to, the following:

• *Prepare, assemble, and install building product samples for testing in accordance with drawings, specifications, and nationally recognized standards such as CSA, UL, ASTM, and related protocols.*
• *Construct test fixtures, frames, chambers, boxes, and other specialized setups required to conduct laboratory testing.*
• Operate laboratory equipment and instrumentation used to measure thermal performance, moisture transmission, air leakage, temperature, and other physical properties of building materials and systems.
• Build and install test bucks for windows and doors, conduct testing, and accurately document test results, inspections, observations, and evaluations.
• Perform physical and environmental testing on a variety of building products, including:

o Insulation materials

o Building envelope and weather barrier systems

o Guardrail and safety railing systems

o Windows, doors, and skylights

o Steel panel and cladding products

o Structural panel systems

• Maintain a working knowledge of the QAI Quality Management System and associated administrative procedures.
• Travel throughout Canada and the United States as required to support testing, inspections, evaluations, and client projects.
• Prepare, review, and maintain clear, accurate, and objective technical reports, test records, and supporting documentation.
• Conduct factory inspections and audits at client manufacturing facilities and other remote locations.
• Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to support project objectives and customer satisfaction.
• Contribute positively to a collaborative, fast-paced team environment with a strong commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
• Other duties as assigned by the manager or its designee.

*QUALIFICATIONS: *The successful candidate will:

• Diploma in Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering Technology, Building Sciences, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience.
• Preferably 1-3 years related experience in a structural or construction laboratory testing environment in the testing, inspection, and certification industry
• Knowledge of US and Canada building codes and referenced nationally recognized safety standards is a plus.
• Possess the ability to read, understand, and apply technical standards towards product certification, testing, and inspection.
