Your tasks

As the Technical Chief of Staff, you will serve as the strategic technical right-hand to the COO. In our flat startup environment, you will bridge the gap between operational strategy and multi-disciplinary engineering execution. Your primary focus will be authoring high-level system design plans, creating technical guidance documentation, and spinning up agile project teams on a project-by-project basis to execute critical internal and client-facing infrastructure initiatives.

Core Responsibilities Strategic Technical Planning & Design

  • Translate the COO's operational vision into actionable system architectures spanning cloud, software, hardware, and physical infrastructure.
  • Author comprehensive system design plans, network topologies, data models, and high-level blueprint documentation.
  • Standardize documentation frameworks to ensure seamless alignment between software developers, IT support, and physical construction teams.
  • Evaluate external vendor equipment and platforms against building in-house technical solutions (build-vs-buy analysis).

Project Orchestration & Team Assembly

  • Assemble and resource cross-functional project teams dynamically (e.g., pulling from development, network engineering, or field technician pools).
  • Define multi-disciplinary project scopes, technical dependencies, and delivery timelines.
  • Drive execution velocity for complex internal deployments without introducing corporate red tape or bureaucratic overhead.
  • Serve as the central point of contact to proactively unblock technical bottlenecks across highly varied departments.

Technical Guidance & Quality Assurance

  • Provide architectural guidance and engineering mentorship to project teams during active rollouts.
  • Establish clear technical standards and deployment playbooks for software, networking, and physical site builds.
  • Conduct strategic reviews of proposed technical designs to minimize technical debt and ensure compatibility across our diverse stack.
  • Operational Extension of the COO
  • Act as the COO’s proxy in highly technical discussions, product evaluations, and field engineering reviews.
  • Filter, synthesize, and report project health, resource constraints, and technical risks directly to leadership.

Stack-Specific Scope You will design plans, write guidance docs, and assemble temporary teams across our core business lines:

  • Digital Infrastructure: Cloud hosting architectures and custom application development lifecycles.
  • Cybersecurity & Networking: MSSP framework integrations and SD-WAN services deployed via satellite networks.
  • Physical & Industrial Engineering: Data center construction projects, on-site IT support setups, and renewable energy infrastructure builds.

Requirements

Key Qualifications Technical Expertise

  • 5+ years of hybrid engineering experience crossing at least two of our core domains (e.g., Software/Cloud + Network/Infrastructure).
  • Proven experience authoring system design plans, technical architecture blueprints, and internal engineering documentation.
  • Broad conceptual grasp of modern infrastructure technologies, including cloud platforms, network security protocols, SD-WAN/satellite deployment, and industrial power setups.

Leadership & Delivery

  • Demonstrated success leading complex technical deployments, defining milestones, and managing multi-disciplinary dependencies.
  • Exceptional cross-functional communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business objectives for the COO.
  • Strong capability to influence without authority, guiding and mentoring engineers who do not report to you permanently.

Startup Mindset

  • Thrives in a flat, fast-paced environment where project scopes shift dynamically from software sprints to physical infrastructure rollouts.
  • Pragmatic problem solver who prioritizes delivery velocity, operational utility, and simplicity over over-engineering.

Other

We are looking for or to build EXPERTS in IT, are you good enough to try, can you be the next leader in IT? What’s fog, edge or cloud? What’s AI? Is it yours or theirs? Is it local or cloud? Can you manage someone else’s environment? CORRECTLY! Do you consult, provide leadership or audit others? Do you understand V8, STIG, Benchmark or even Storm Center? What about the WAN, SD-WAN, SD-LAN or STP? Can you complete a System Design Plan or review a Secure Software Design Framework Report? Can you find the Tree, Branch or Leaf in the Node? Hey where’s that Bit Bucket? If I ATT&CK can you give me the D3fend TTP?
