Agronomist

Responsibilities:

Crop Production & Agronomy:

Develop and implement crop production plans for both greenhouse and open-field operations.

Monitor crop growth and development and provide recommendations to optimize yield and quality.

Advise on seed selection, planting schedules, plant population, spacing, and crop rotation.

Develop and implement appropriate crop nutrition and fertilization programmes.

Conduct regular field and greenhouse inspections to identify crop health issues.

Greenhouse Operations:

Manage agronomic activities within greenhouse production systems.

Monitor temperature, humidity, ventilation, irrigation, fertigation, and other environmental parameters.

Develop and implement greenhouse crop schedules and production protocols.

Monitor plant performance and recommend corrective actions where required.

Support the optimization of greenhouse productivity and resource utilization.

Open-Field Production:

Supervise land preparation, planting, irrigation, fertilization, crop maintenance, and harvesting activities.

Monitor soil conditions and recommend appropriate soil amendments and cultivation practices.

Develop strategies for effective weed, pest, and disease management.

Monitor weather and environmental conditions and assess their potential impact on crop performance.

Pest & Disease Management:

Conduct routine scouting for pests, diseases, weeds, and other crop health issues.

Develop and implement Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programmes.

Recommend appropriate biological, cultural, mechanical, and chemical control measures.

Ensure the safe and responsible use of agrochemicals in accordance with approved procedures and applicable regulations.

Soil, Irrigation & Plant Nutrition:

Conduct or coordinate soil and water testing and interpret results.

Develop appropriate fertilizer and nutrient management programmes.

Monitor irrigation systems and water application to ensure efficient crop utilization.

Manage fertigation programmes for greenhouse crops where applicable.

Identify and address nutrient deficiencies and other soil-related crop problems.

Monitoring, Reporting & Data Management:

Maintain accurate records of planting, crop growth, inputs, treatments, yields, and production activities.

Track crop performance and analyse production data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.

Prepare regular agronomic reports for management.

Establish and monitor key crop production indicators, including yield, crop quality, input usage, and crop losses.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soil Science, Horticulture, Agricultural Science, or a related field.

3–6 years of relevant experience in commercial crop production.

Demonstrated practical experience in both greenhouse and open-field farming.

Experience in crop nutrition, irrigation, fertigation, pest and disease management, and crop protection.

Practical knowledge of modern agricultural and sustainable farming practices.

Required Skills & Competencies:

Strong knowledge of crop production, agronomy, and greenhouse operations. Practical experience in both greenhouse and open-field farming. Proficiency in soil, plant nutrition, irrigation, and fertigation management. Strong knowledge of pest, disease, and weed management, including IPM. Good analytical, problem-solving, record-keeping, and reporting skills. Strong communication, teamwork, and field supervision skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and willingness to work hands-on on-site.
