Poort Lyceum has achieved beautiful exam results with the direct instruction method. Students receive goal-oriented short instruction and are then personally guided by their teacher. Poort Lyceum has a pleasant student population. Classroom management is therefore based on the relationship with the students, rather than on authority. The new colleague identifies with this educational and pedagogical vision. The new colleague has experience in, and affinity with, both the lower and upper years at mavo, havo, and vwo levels.

At Poort Lyceum, all teachers are also coaches; they have a personal conversation once every three weeks with their coachee students regarding study attitude, organization, and performance. Additionally, they are also the point of contact for parents.

Most students find English an enjoyable subject; due to their familiarity with the language, they sometimes overestimate their level of proficiency. The new colleague is expected to proactively help search for an approach that works for our students and that makes them enthusiastic about continuing to commit themselves to learning English.

Tasks are divided within the subject departments: preparing tests, creating lesson plans, analyses of test results, etc. The colleague fully participates in these as well. New colleagues are guided by our teacher coaches and by a colleague from the subject department. There are intervision moments to discuss experiences with other new colleagues. The MT has an open-door policy and is always easily accessible.

English teacher second-degree for 0.5 fte.
