IT Systems Administrator (Mid/Senior)

About the company

At the IT Services Center of Gdańsk University of Technology, we maintain and develop services used by students, researchers, and university administration. We are looking for someone who can independently diagnose complex problems, safely implement changes, and improve daily work through automation. You will join a team working on infrastructure modernization, identity security, and service resilience. We are looking for someone at a Senior level or an experienced Mid. The position level and salary will be matched to confirmed competencies and the scope of responsibility.

Your tasks

• Maintenance and development of Windows Server and Active Directory, including GPO, DNS, DHCP, permissions, and file services.
• Administration of Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Exchange Online, as well as development of device management and environment protection using Intune and Microsoft Defender.
• Administration of the VMware vSphere environment and participation in the development of hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) based on VMware vSAN, taking into account availability, performance, and capacity requirements.
• Maintenance of Veeam, control of backups, and service and data recovery testing in accordance with established RPO and RTO goals.
• Diagnosing incidents escalated by the Helpdesk, analyzing logs and root causes of failures, and implementing actions to prevent their recurrence.
• Automation of tasks in PowerShell, updating and hardening system configurations, and implementing security measures together with the team.
• Planning changes and migrations, preparing tests and rollback plans, as well as documenting solutions and collaborating with vendors.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of practice in administering a production environment and experience in independently resolving incidents and implementing changes.
• Very good knowledge of Windows Server and Active Directory: GPO, DNS, DHCP, permissions, diagnosing authentication and replication problems.
• Practical experience with Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Exchange Online, as well as implementing policies in Intune and Microsoft Defender protection mechanisms.
• Ability to administer the VMware vSphere environment, including ESXi, vCenter, virtual machines, and HA mechanisms.
• Experience with Veeam and real-world recovery of data or services; understanding of retention, backup isolation, and the difference between a snapshot and a backup.
• Ability to write and maintain PowerShell scripts and practical knowledge of the principle of least privilege, MFA, and patch management.
• Understanding of system dependencies on TCP/IP networks, DNS, routing, and firewall rules; ability to collaborate with network administrators during diagnostics.
• Independence, documenting work, and sharing knowledge; English proficiency allowing for the use of documentation and managing tickets to vendor support.

An additional asset will be

• Experience working with HCI environments based on VMware vSAN or other technologies, in environment migration, and in conducting disaster recovery tests.
• Administration of Linux systems, knowledge of NetApp storage or Cisco UCS server infrastructure.
• Practice in monitoring and centralized log analysis, using Git, or automation via API.
• Participation in implementing technical security measures related to NIS2 and Microsoft, VMware, or Veeam certifications.
