Senior Engineer, Test & Development

Position Overview

The Senior Engineer, Test & Development is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving test solutions for optoelectronic and photonic products from research and development through mass production. This role involves hands-on testing, data analysis, test automation, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure robust, repeatable, and production-ready test processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop, evaluate, and implement robust testing strategies for optoelectronic products across R&D, qualification, and high-volume manufacturing.
• Develop and optimize optical, electro-optical (DC/RF), and photonic integrated circuit (PIC) testing and characterization methodologies.
• Design, improve, and maintain test systems, fixtures/jigs, and measurement setups using appropriate electrical and optical laboratory instrumentation.
• Develop and implement test automation, standardization, and best practices to improve test throughput, repeatability, and cost efficiency.
• Perform data analysis and prepare or review test reports, GR&R studies, tester buy-off documentation, and qualification results.
• Troubleshoot test and product issues, conduct validation, root-cause and failure analysis, and recommend corrective actions using advanced electrical and optical test equipment.
• Collaborate with design, process, manufacturing, quality, supply-chain teams, and external partners to support product readiness, design for testability (DFT), and successful transition from development to mass production.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Photonics, or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical, optical, or optoelectronic testing within R&D and/or manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of electrical and optical test equipment, laboratory instrumentation, measurement techniques, and data analysis; proficiency in tools such as Microsoft Excel, JMP, or equivalent.
• Experience developing test automation and scripts using Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar programming languages.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues, drive test and process improvements, communicate technical findings effectively, and collaborate with cross-functional teams; experience with FPGA design and development is a plus.
