CNC Technical Team Leader
Your tasks
This hands-on position involves programming, setting and machining high-quality components using HAAS 5 Axis CNC milling machines and CAD CAM software, ideally SolidCAM. You will play a key role in ensuring production efficiency, maintaining exceptional quality standards and supporting continuous improvements across the machine shop.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Program, set and operate HAAS 5 Axis CNC milling machines using CAD CAM software, preferably SolidCAM, to manufacture precision-engineered components.
- Develop, prove and optimise CNC programmes, ensuring components meet engineering drawings, dimensional tolerances and ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
- Manage daily machining activities and production schedules, ensuring efficient workflows, high-quality output and on-time delivery.
- Provide technical guidance, supervision and support to CNC operators, helping develop their skills and maintain production performance.
- Identify and implement continuous improvements in CNC machining processes, tooling, workholding and manufacturing efficiency.
- Oversee material requirements, stock control, tooling and purchasing activities while supporting accurate machining time estimates and component costing.
- Collaborate with engineering, production and assembly teams to coordinate manufacturing requirements and ensure smooth production planning.
- Maintain accurate production documentation and Sage 200 records while promoting excellent housekeeping, safe working practices and compliance with company procedures
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a strong background in 5 Axis CNC machining, excellent technical knowledge and the ability to support CNC operators while ensuring production schedules and quality requirements are consistently achieved.
Education & Skills Require
- Proven previous experience in a CNC programming and setting role within precision engineering or a similar manufacturing environment, with comprehensive knowledge of 5 Axis CNC milling.
- Strong CAD CAM programming skills, ideally using SolidCAM, together with experience programming HAAS CNC machines. Experience with alternative CAD CAM software will also be considered.
- Excellent understanding of machining techniques, cutting tools, cavity and custom form tooling, and experience machining aluminium, mild steel and stainless steel.
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, use precision measuring equipment and work to stringent dimensional tolerances and ISO 9001:2015 quality standards.
- Experience estimating machining times and component costs, combined with strong organisational, problem-solving, communication and time-management skills.
- A relevant HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering would be advantageous, alongside a proactive, flexible approach and the ability to work independently or collaboratively within a small team.
