Vessel Superintendent

As Vessel Superintendent (VSI) at Plouvier, you are responsible for the daily technical management of our fleet of inland tankers. In this role, you play a crucial role in ensuring operational functionality, safety, and performance. Additionally, you contribute to the satisfaction of our crew through strong on-site leadership and fast, effective technical support.

Key responsibilities

• Responsible for the daily technical operation of the fleet and ensuring that the vessels meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and efficiency.
• Acting as the primary technical point of contact for the crew.
• Building and maintaining strong and supportive relationships with the crew, where needs are followed up quickly to ensure high motivation and retention.
• Performing regular visits to the vessels to provide visible and hands-on leadership and resolve technical issues.
• Being available 24/7 to handle urgent technical problems (via a rotation system within the team for calls outside of office hours).
• Acting quickly to minimize downtime and ensure smooth operational functionality.
• Coordinating on-board audits and acting as a supportive technical partner to the captain during these audits.
• Leading technical projects and coordinating maintenance schedules. Where necessary, ensuring supervision of the execution of repairs, both on board and remotely.
• Ensuring efficient collaboration with the Fleet Director and the relevant departments within the organization.
• Aligning expenditures with the needs of the fleet and the long-term objectives of the organization.
• At least a bachelor's degree in Maritime Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a similar technical field, or equivalent through experience.
• Demonstrable experience with ship maintenance and technical operations, preferably within inland shipping, tanker shipping, or with inland vessels.
• Strong project management skills, combined with a proactive and hands-on approach.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide performance and build trust on board.
• Willingness and availability to travel regularly to operational locations and vessels.
• Good knowledge of European inland shipping regulations and applicable safety standards.
• Fluent English and at least a good knowledge of German (required).
