As we continue to scale, we are looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Accounts Officer – Payables & Reconciliation to strengthen our Finance function. The Role
The Accounts Officer will be responsible for the accurate and timely management of accounts payable, reconciliations and related accounting records .
This role requires someone who is highly comfortable working with transaction-level data, investigating discrepancies and ensuring that balances are properly reconciled and supported by documentation.
The ideal candidate should be able to independently identify reconciliation gaps, trace transactions to their source and follow outstanding items through to resolution. Key ResponsibilitiesAccounts Payable
Manage day-to-day accounts payable activities and ensure approved payments are accurately processed and recorded. Review invoices, payment requests and supporting documentation before processing. Maintain accurate vendor and supplier payable records. Prepare payment schedules and ensure payments are processed in line with agreed timelines. Reconcile vendor statements against internal records and investigate discrepancies. Track outstanding liabilities and provide visibility on upcoming payment obligations. Ensure appropriate approvals and supporting documentation are maintained for all payments. Work with internal teams and vendors to resolve payment-related issues promptly. Reconciliations
Perform regular bank, vendor, payment and account reconciliations . Reconcile transaction records across bank statements, accounting systems and internal operational records. Investigate unmatched transactions, variances, duplicate entries and other reconciliation differences. Maintain clear schedules of outstanding reconciliation items, with owners and expected resolution dates. Follow through on reconciling items until they are fully resolved. Escalate material or recurring discrepancies promptly. Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and within agreed reporting timelines. Accounting & Financial Controls
Post and maintain accurate accounting entries and supporting schedules. Support month-end and year-end financial close activities. Maintain proper documentation and filing of invoices, payment evidence, reconciliations and other financial records. Support preparation of audit schedules and provide requested supporting documentation. Ensure transactions are appropriately classified and recorded. Support compliance with internal financial controls, accounting policies and statutory requirements. Identify weaknesses or recurring issues within payable and reconciliation processes and recommend improvements. Reporting & Finance Support
Prepare regular accounts payable, reconciliation and outstanding-item reports. Maintain accurate ageing schedules for payables. Provide the Head of Finance with visibility on unresolved transactions, outstanding liabilities and material reconciliation issues. Support cash-flow planning by maintaining accurate information on upcoming payment obligations. Provide other accounting and finance support as required. Requirements
Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline . Minimum of 3 years' relevant accounting experience , with practical experience in accounts payable and reconciliations. ICAN or ACCA qualification, or actively pursuing ICAN/ACCA , is required. Strong practical understanding of accounting principles and double-entry bookkeeping. Demonstrated experience performing bank, vendor and transaction reconciliations . Experience managing accounts payable and payment documentation. Strong Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets skills. Experience using accounting software or ERP systems. Good understanding of Nigerian taxes and statutory accounting requirements is an advantage. What We Are Looking For
