TELECOMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

This position is located in the Pentagon Operations Center (POC) Division. The POC serves as the Pentagon Reservation's Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). The mission of the POC, is to observe, receive, validate, and react to information regarding indications of potential threats to public safety, physical security breaches, or compromises of infrastructure integrity at Pentagon facilities in the NCR in order to provide a safe work environment for the DoW community and its visitors.

Major duties

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: The employee receives and monitors emergency and non-emergency requests by telephone or automatic alarms throughout the Pentagon Facilities. Conducts operational checks of communications and telephone equipment, notes discrepancies in accordance with established procedures. The employee serves as a Communications Training Officer (CTO) as a collateral duty and is responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling, and facilitating training sessions within the prescribed course framework. The employee may serve as an EMD-Q and must be certified as an EMD Quality Improvement Specialist through the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED) and attend additional training on the AQUATM software. Monitors and controls CCTV and other detection systems as both a general surveillance tool and as an assessment tool while observing activity for the presence of unusual, unauthorized or prohibited activity.

You may qualify at the GS-08 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates: Evaluating emergency calls to determine the nature of call to dispatch appropriate emergency services; and Providing callers emergency medical instructions of first aid techniques, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR); and Documenting and maintaining records of professional and job-related training; and Obtaining essential information to assist or direct caller to the appropriate department based on request for service. You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates: Using standard procedures (including established questioning) to manage emergency calls; and Coordinating with military and civilian agencies to respond to mutual aid requests; and Managing and maintaining oversight of course material and instruction plans for the training courses; and Controlling Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and other detection systems to observe any unusual or prohibited activity.
