Your tasks

We are looking for a commercially minded and digitally curious individual to support the commercial activities of our Commercial Newbuild team, with a focus on shipbuilding. The role combines commercial coordination, commercial analysis and reporting, documentation, and practical process improvement.

You will work closely with the Newbuild Commercial colleagues and cross-functional teams including the Contracts team, Engineering, Projects, Yard Operations, Costing, Procurement, Finance and Legal. Beyond keeping commercial activities organised and on schedule, you will help put in place and maintain the internal newbuild business process, working with these teams to close gaps and clarify handovers between functions.

This is a hands-on commercial role with direct exposure to live tenders, customer engagements and project commercial matters. As your understanding develops, you may take on selected commercial workstreams with increasing independence and, as the team grows, progress into a more commercially focused role.

  1. Commercial Coordination & Documentation
  • Support tender and project commercial activities by coordinating inputs, managing deadlines and following up on outstanding actions.
  • Prepare and maintain commercial records, trackers, clarification lists, correspondence and supporting documents.
  • Support documentation relating to contractual milestones, payment requests, guarantees and other commercial deliverables, with appropriate review and approvals.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, minutes, action logs and follow-up communications; support customer visits, presentations and commercial events when required.
  1. Commercial Data, Reporting & Research
  • Maintain accurate customer, opportunity and project-commercial information for internal reporting and follow-up.
  • Compile and analyse commercial data such as tender pipelines, project costs, margins, variation status and key exposures for review by senior colleagues.
  • Prepare concise management updates, dashboards, presentations and customer-specific materials.
  • Conduct targeted market, customer and competitor research to support business development and commercial decisions.
  1. Newbuild Business Process Improvement
  • Work with the Contracts team, Engineering, Projects and Yard Operations to establish, document and maintain the internal newbuild business process.
  • Develop and maintain practical templates, checklists, reporting structures and centralised trackers to improve consistency and reduce rework.
  • Review recurring commercial workflows to identify duplicated, unclear or low-value steps that can be eliminated, simplified or standardised, and agree improvements with the relevant teams.
  • Document agreed workflows, assess improvements in consistency, timeliness and accuracy, and support adoption across the team and interfacing functions while observing company data-security and approval requirements
  1. Commercial Exposure & Development
  • Participate in selected customer meetings, tender discussions and project reviews to develop commercial and industry knowledge.
  • Build familiarity with core shipbuilding and project commercial concepts, including payment terms, warranties, guarantees, liquidated damages and change management.
  • Progressively support selected smaller commercial assignments or VO workstreams under guidance, subject to readiness and business needs.

Requirements

  • Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Maritime Studies, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Organised and detail-oriented, with the discipline to follow through on multiple actions and deadlines.
  • Comfortable with numbers and proficient in Excel, PowerPoint and Word; interest in process improvement and structured ways of working is a strong advantage.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with the confidence to coordinate across different functions.
  • A problem-solving mindset: able to question inefficient ways of working and propose practical improvements.
  • An interest in developing commercial understanding of the maritime, shipbuilding or offshore industry.
