About Pathfinder Consulting
Pathfinder Consulting is a career development and global opportunities consultancy committed to empowering professionals to secure global opportunities.
We are seeking a detail-oriented, independent and highly ethical Internal Auditor to strengthen financial accountability, operational controls, documentation standards and compliance across the organisation.
Role Overview
The Internal Auditor will independently assess financial transactions, departmental activities, records and internal control processes across Pathfinder Consulting.
The successful candidate will identify irregularities, verify compliance with approved procedures, reduce financial and operational risks, and ensure that departments can properly account for their work, records and use of company resources.
This role also includes reviewing basic IT access and digital controls. It is not a specialist cybersecurity position.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Audit and Accountability
- Review client payments, receipts, invoices, refunds, commissions, payroll inputs, procurement and operating expenses.
- Independently verify bank and payment-platform reconciliations, revenue reports and outstanding receivables.
- Identify duplicate, unsupported, unusual or unauthorised transactions and escalate discrepancies.
- Review compliance with budgets, approval limits and segregation-of-duties requirements.
- Ensure client funds are accurately recorded, allocated and traceable.
Departmental and Operational Audits
- Conduct scheduled and risk-based audits across Finance, HR, Sales, Admissions, Career Services, Client Success, Marketing, IT and Administration.
- Verify reported work and departmental performance against CRM records, client files, transaction histories and supporting evidence.
- Review client onboarding, service delivery, follow-ups, case escalation, refunds and case closure.
- Identify process inefficiencies, policy violations and accountability gaps.
- Recommend practical improvements and monitor corrective actions.
Documentation and Recordkeeping
- Review the completeness and accuracy of client files, employee records, contracts, registers and operational reports.
- Verify that SOPs, checklists, approval workflows and record-retention practices are followed.
- Identify missing records, inconsistent information and unauthorised changes.
- Establish and monitor minimum documentation and evidence standards.
- Review the secure handling and authorised sharing of confidential information.
Basic IT and Information Controls
- Review user access to company email, CRM, accounting tools, HR systems, shared drives and other key applications.
- Verify that access permissions reflect job responsibilities and are promptly updated when staff change roles or leave.
- Review basic controls relating to passwords, multifactor authentication, backups, file-sharing permissions and company devices.
- Review software subscriptions, IT assets and records of significant system changes or access incidents.
- Report control gaps to Management and responsible IT personnel.
Risk Management and Audit Reporting
- Prepare and execute a risk-based audit plan.
- Maintain an audit findings register with risk ratings, evidence, responsible owners, corrective actions and deadlines.
- Submit concise weekly exception updates and monthly audit reports to Executive Management.
- Follow up on corrective actions, verify their effectiveness and escalate significant or repeated non-compliance.
- Recommend improvements that strengthen transparency, accountability and loss prevention.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Information Systems or a related field.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in internal audit, financial controls, compliance or operational audit.
- Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, ICAN or CIA is preferred.
- Basic IT audit training or experience is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of reconciliations, internal controls, audit evidence and documentation standards.
- Proficiency in Excel and familiarity with accounting software, CRM systems and cloud-based business applications.
- Experience in a consulting or service-based organisation is desirable.
Core Competencies
- High integrity, independence and confidentiality.
- Strong analytical, investigative and report-writing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and sound professional judgment.
- Ability to challenge unsupported explanations constructively.
- Strong organisation, risk prioritisation and follow-through.
- Confidence working across multiple departments and escalating material findings.
Performance Expectations
The successful candidate will be assessed on:
- Timely completion of the approved audit plan.
- Accuracy and timeliness of weekly and monthly reports.
- Identification and escalation of material discrepancies.
- Compliance with documentation and evidence standards.
- Timely closure of audit findings and reduction of repeat control failures.
- Completion of scheduled user-access and basic IT-control reviews.
Independence and Authority
The Internal Auditor will report findings directly to the CEO or designated executive oversight authority and will have authorised access to records required for approved reviews.
The role must remain independent: the auditor must not approve, process or administer the same activities they audit. Department heads remain responsible for their processes, Finance for accounting and reconciliations, and IT for operating and securing systems.
