Job Title: Facilities Assistant Location: Oak Tree School, Truro, TR4 9NH Salary: £29,282.50 per annum (not pro rata) Hours: 42.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | 8.00am - 4.30pm Contract: Permanent | 52 weeks Start: October 2026 UK applicants only. This role does not offer sponsorship. About the Role We're looking for a proactive and reliable Facilities Assistant to join our team. This is a hands-on role where you'll play a vital part in maintaining our buildings, grounds, equipment and facilities to the highest standards, ensuring a safe, welcoming and professional environment for students, staff and visitors. Whether you bring experience in general maintenance, plumbing, joinery, decorating or another trade, this is an excellent opportunity to join a supportive team where your skills will make a real difference every day. What you will be doing Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, repairs and refurbishment tasks across the site. Supporting the upkeep of buildings, grounds, equipment and plant to ensure high standards are maintained. Undertaking regular site inspections and reporting any maintenance, repair or health and safety concerns. Assisting with health and safety compliance, including fire alarm checks, risk assessments and emergency procedures. Liaising with contractors and suppliers to support maintenance projects and specialist repairs. Maintaining tools, equipment and machinery safely and effectively. Supporting the on-call rota and responding to urgent maintenance requirements when needed. Contributing to a safe, clean and well-presented learning environment for students and staff. What you will bring Experience in general maintenance, facilities, caretaking or a related trade. Ideally has experience in a specialist area such as plumbing, joinery, electrical work or decorating. Has a strong understanding of health and safety practices and COSHH regulations. Can work independently, manage workloads effectively and prioritise tasks. Is practical, reliable and takes pride in delivering high-quality work. Has basic IT skills for completing records and reports. Driving licence required About Us Oak Tree School in Truro has recently expanded and developed two new buildings and undergone a successful inspection from Ofsted allowing us to offer a wider age range of students from 5 - 18 years the opportunity to have the best education possible. Oak Tree School is a specialist SEMH provision positioned near the city of Truro in Cornwall. The school provides full-time specialist co-education for up to 135 students and young people aged 5 to 18 who experience social, emotional, mental health, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviours. These students and young people often cannot cope, function or achieve within a mainstream environment. The aim is to provide a structured, nurturing approach, with students accessing a broad, balanced and engaging curriculum to meet their significant needs. This opportunity is in Truro which is within commutable distance of Redruth, St Austell and surrounding areas. At Outcomes First Schools, we provide specialist education for learners who need a deeper level of understanding, expertise and support than mainstream education can typically offer. We support students with a wide range of complex, co-occurring and neurodivergent needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, speech and communication needs, dyslexia and experiences of trauma or adversity.
