About the position
OsloMet - the metropolitan university is the country's third largest university, with over 24,000 students and more than 2,400 employees. OsloMet has campuses in Pilestredet and at Kjeller. OsloMet is an attractive place of study and work and an active part of the metropolitan region's social, working, and cultural life.
The Faculty of Social Sciences offers education at all degree levels, as well as one-year studies, continuing education, and commissioned teaching. The faculty has active and strong research environments. There are approximately 316 employees and around 4,800 students associated with the faculty, which is located in Pilestredet in central Oslo. The faculty has four institutes, one of which is the Business School.
At the Business School at OsloMet, there is a vacancy for an Institute Director. The position is a fixed-term position for the period 01.03.27 – 28.02.31, with the possibility to apply for the same position for two additional four-year terms.
The Business School offers a wide range of programs aimed at both public and private sectors at bachelor's and master's levels. The Business School has bachelor's and master's programs in economics, administration, and management, and ph.d. education linked to the faculty's ph.d. program. The Business School's programs are highly sought after; the institute has been and is characterized by growth and good recruitment of both students and new employees.
The Business School holds a central place in the faculty's and the university's strategic development. International accreditation is a central strategic priority for the Business School, and work is being carried out purposefully to achieve AACSB accreditation.
The Business School has 88 employees and approx. 2,000 students and is centrally located in Oslo. The Business School is divided into five subject groups:
- Finance and accounting
- Public administration and governance
- Organization and management
- Economics and methods
- Strategy, innovation, and marketing
Each subject group is led by a subject group leader. The subject group leaders report to the Institute Director.

Responsibilities
The Institute Director is the highest academic and administrative leader for the institute. This involves responsibility for results in education, research, development work, dissemination, financial management, and HR. The education sector is undergoing significant change, and it is required that you have the ability to implement academic renewal and strategic planning based on societal needs. You will be central to the dean's management group and contribute to the development of a faculty with great ambitions. We want someone who will be an academic driving force at the university and who is present in meetings with students and employees.
The institute has administrative support organized at the faculty level.
Qualifications and requirements
You must have Formal competence is required for appointment to a scientific position (preferably a doctorate or equivalent) at a university, and primary experience with teaching, research, and development work.
Furthermore, the following is required:
- leadership experience from teaching or research activities
- a good understanding of financial management and personnel management
- academic strength
- good oral and written presentation skills in Norwegian or a Scandinavian language, as well as English
Broad competence from one or more subject areas within the institute is desirable.
